Online Training
The Scarlet Alliance Peer Educator Online Training site makes it easy for you to access learning at your pace and to achieve your Peer Educator goals – whether you choose to use it as a learning resource to improve your peer educator knowledge and skills, or if you decide to undertake all of the learning modules followed by the activities and submit for review you can achieve a Scarlet Alliance Certificate of Completion…… it’s up to you!
The online training includes a mix of media and is made up of eight modules. Each module takes you through written information with links to video and audio footage, presentations, relevant websites and further readings. All of the material has been either written or selected by sex workers and peer educators.
The eight modules are:
• The Diversity of Sex Workers
• Peer Education
• Migrant Sex Work versus Trafficking
• Community Development
• Activism and Advocacy
• Law Reform
• Safer Sex Education
• Outreach
Each module takes the participant through written articles with links to video and audio footage, presentations, relevant websites and further readings. All of the material has been either written or selected by sex workers and peer educators.
Additionally, you can complete activities for each module in the activities area. If you complete and submit them all they will be reviewed by qualified peer educators and you can achieve the Scarlet Alliance Certificate of Completion or valuable feedback to enhance your knowledge and skills even further (you will need to be enrolled to have access)
As a member of Scarlet Alliance you can enrol for this training if you are a peer educator employed by a sex worker organisation or project in Australia OR if you undertake peer education in a more informal capacity with other sex workers. While the peer educator training resource does not aim to replace the one-on-one training that you would do when you start work at a sex worker organisation/project is does contribute important knowledge and skills that contribute to you becoming a qualified peer educator.
