Diploma of Community Development

The Scarlet Alliance Diploma of Community Development formally recognises the skills of peer educators with at least 12 month experience. The Diploma has been adapted from the nationally recognised Community and Health Industry Training Package (CHC08) by Scarlet Alliance in partnership with a Registered Training Organisation especially for its member workplaces.
The workplace recognition assessment process and resources provide an insight into the diverse services that sex worker peer educators in Australia provide. The assessment process involves peer educators, in consultation with their assessor, collecting evidence which demonstrates competent work performance and knowledge.
Assessors are themselves sex worker peer educators who have completed accredited training and met the requirements to conduct a nationally recognised competency based assessment. Once the assessment process is completed, Registered Training Organisation, Advance TAFE will issue successful candidates with the Nationally Recognised Diploma of Community Development in two formats (one with Scarlet Alliance logo and one without) and an academic transcript.
The Scarlet Alliance Diploma of Community Development is an opportunity for peer educators to have their work validated and confirmed. For any work sector this is important. However, for sex worker peer educators it is especially significant, as the skills and knowledge that inform the complex work of sex work peer education have never been formally recognised.
