"Response to Chris Griffith," Candi F, 22 Jan 07
Why didn't Chris Griffith's story mention that most of the issues which were brought up in the story by the brothel operators and Chris himself (safety for sole operators; advertising having to be approved by the PLA; escorts being offered as social companionship etc.) have been recently addressed by the Crime and Misconduct Commission in the report Regulating Outcalls? That report deals with all of these issues and makes detailed recommendations for legislative changes to address them.
In particular the CMC report recommends changes to the law to allow sole operators to have a receptionist and/or driver.
Chris Griffiths should be talking about these CMC recommendations and asking the Police Minister whether she is going to act on them. That would be news.
By the way, if you are an investigative journalist you should be checking that "25% of the industry is legal" statistic. Where does that come from? I believe it has no basis in any actual research.
