"Parramatta Council responds to ICAC findings" Parramatta Sun, August 22, 2007
Parramatta City Council has welcomed the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) report, further to its investigation of former employee, Wade Fryar.
"The Council has been systematically reviewing its regulatory services and welcomes the report recommendations as a further enhancement to our processes,†Parramatta City Council General Manager John Neish said.
“The recommendations provide all councils with ways to improve their corruption prevention practices and we are pleased that many of the suggestions already form part of a more rigorous compliance management system at Parramatta,†Mr Neish said.
"We have systematically strengthened internal processes, devised corruption detection training for all managers, and introduced random audits to ensure our corruption prevention measures are as good as possible.â€
Mr Neish noted that Council's Compliance Unit has undergone extensive review, assisted by former ICAC Commissioner John Mant.
The Council has already introduced a number of systems and procedural changes that were recommended by the Commissioner.
Due to the onerous legal and administrative constraints of current policing of unauthorised land use, the Council is also keenly anticipating the enactment of NSW legislation enabling councils to cut off the electricity and gas to brothels that are suspected of operating illegally.
